Vinod Mehra was born on 13 February 1945 in Amritsar, India. He was an Indian actor and director in Bollywood films.
Roop K. Shorey was sitting in Gaylord, a restaurant at Churchgate, Bombay, popular with the film folks patronising it. He spotted Vinod Mehra and gave him his first break in 'Ek Thi Rita' (1971). Vinod was paired opposite Tanuja in this film. However, it was 'Anurag' (1972) with Moushumi Chatterjee that really launched his career in films. He was lucky with most of his films which included 'Shandar', 'Parde ke Peeche', 'Elaan', 'Vardan', 'Anurodh','Sab Se Bada Rupaiya', 'Saajan Bina Suhagan', 'Ghar' and 'Amar Prem'.
He was one of the few stars who acted as a parallel hero without creating problems for the producers. 'Lal Patthar' (with Raaj Kumar), 'Jurmana' (with Amitabh Bachchan), 'Arjun Pandit' (with Sanjeev Kumar), 'Amar Prem' and 'Amar Deep (both with Rajesh Khanna) are some such two-hero films. Besides acting in several films with Rekha, with whom he also had a brief marriage, Vinod also acted in her brother's film, 'Naya Bakra'.
Though he was considered a chocolate-faced hero, Mehra tried being versatile and even accepted a negative character role in 'Kartavya'. More than his films, Vinod remained in the news for his various marriages. His first marriage to Meena Broca was arranged by his mother. The marriage was reportedly not consummated as Vinod had a heart attack shortly after the marriage. Once he recovered, he married his frequent leading lady Bindiya Goswami while still married to Meena. Meena left him and went back to her parents house. His marriage to Bindiya also quickly dissolved, and she soon married director J.P. Dutta with whom she has two daughters. He was said to be married to superstar Rekha, although in a 2004 television interview with Simi Garewal, she denied being married to him calling him a "well-wisher." His last wife was Kiran, and that marriage lasted until his death. With Kiran he had two children Soniya and Rohan.

Daughter Soniya is set to make her debut into films later this year in a film titled Bombay High.
After his death many films in which he was playing supporting roles were delayed for some reason and ended up releasing years after he had died. His last film appearance was in Aatank which released in 1996.
