Randhir Kapoor (JamActor of India)

Randhir Kapoor was born on 15 February 1947 in India. He  is a Bollywood actor of yesteryear.

Randhir Kapoor is the eldest son of Raj Kapoor and Krishna Kapoor. He is a fourth generation Kapoor and comes from a distinguished family who have been part of the industry for many years. His great-grandfather was Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor, his grandfather was Prithviraj Kapoor, his paternal uncles are Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. His brothers are Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor.  In real life, much against the wishes of the family, Randhir took Babita to be his wife. His daughters are current stars Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.

His father launched the second son, Chintu as the child star in 'Mera Naam Joker' and then, again, in 'Bobby'. Randhir Film Cuts had to be on his own. Randhir did several films as an actor. The list includes 'Jawani Deewani', 'Dil Deewana' , 'Mama Bhanja' , 'Chacha Bhatija , 'Haath Ki Safai' , 'Rampur Ka Laxman' , 'Rickshawala'  and 'Lafange' . He arrived as a director-actor in 'Kal Aaj aur Kal'  two years before Rishi Kapoor. 'Kal Aaj Aur Kal' was a Film Songs story of the conflict and relationship between three generations and interestingly they were played by the three generations of Kapoors: Prithviraj, Raj and Randhir. More interesting was the presence of Babita as the heroine of the film.

Seeing the tepid response to an otherwise good film, Randhir made 'Dharam Karam'  with a sizzling Rekha in the lead. It was a hit. But disappointing his admirers, Randhir refused to direct another film. Even in 'Biwi-O-Biwi' , Randhir played the hero and left the direction to Rahul Rawail.

Amitabh's emergence as an angry young man wiped out chocolate-faced heroes and Randhir was in the wilderness for a long time. His private life too was giving him problems. He is separated from Babita. Against his wishes, his elder daughter Karisma became an actress and a success at that. For some time it looked like Randhir was a failure. But he 'resurrected' himself, made 'Heena'  proved his credentials once again. If now he is sitting on past laurels, Randhir has every right.

Randhir and Babita were college sweethearts but there marriage was not a success. Babita was also in the movie business, as an actress, until the time of her wedding. The Kapoor family tradition mandated her withdrawal from film upon marriage. After some time, they separated and Babita took their daughters with her. They did not get back together, and live separately. Despite the Kapoor family tradition, Babita encouraged her daughters to become film stars and to indulge in controversial western costumes (which were thought to be scandalous in prior years).
