The 'Mega Star', a reality TV program organized by the local TV channel Swarnawahini, a subsidiary of the EAP Group of companies, concluded yesterday (30) evening at the Sugathadasa Indoor stadium, following a tense situation arose at the venue.
The tense situation was followed by the announcement of the Winner of the Reality show. Ajith Weerasinghe, a businessman who contested along with MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, actor Suresh Gamage & MP Upeksha Swarnamali, fondly known as 'Pabaa' was announced as the winner of the event while Jayasekara was put onto the second place, Gamage and Swarnamali in the third and fourth places respectively.
Spectators turned unruly when it was announced Ajith Weerasinghe has won the event beating hot favourite MP Dayasiri Jayasekara who was endorsed by the panelists. It is learnt, the three panelists Rosy Senanayake, Mervyn Silva and Shirley Waijayantha, when asked by the compeer Kamal Addaraarachchi over their stance about the winner, after the SMS votes were collected, had sided for Jayasekara.
When the EAP Group Director Dr. Soma Edirisinghe and other guests along with the Director of Swarnawahini and the Reality show, Buddhika Kulasekara were summoned on stage to give away the gifts, the duo could only make the presentations to the contestants who grabbed the fourth, third and Second.
When the announcement was made for the presentation of gifts to the winner, Ajith Weerasinghe the crowds, except for the supporters of Weerasinghe who had arrived from Kandy had started conveying their displeasure over the results.
It is at this point the compeer, Kamal Addaraarachchi noticed a plastic water bottle landing near his shoes, from the crowded audience. At the next second, a rain of bottles, cardboards and poles & sticks used for the promotional purposes started landing on to the stage.
Mervyn Silva who was sitting among the panelists too had arrived on stage at this moment. The members of the EAP securities, managed to cover the Group Director Soma Edirisinghe and Channel Director Buddhika Kulasekara and remove the duo from the premises under heavy security.
It is learnt, the officers of the MSD (Ministerial Security Division) and the police had removed both Jayasekara and Mervyn Silva from the premises, with immediate effect.
