My mother is the best
May 12, 2009
My mom gave up a flourishing career as a doctor to enable me to follow my dreams,’ says Priyanka, seen with her mother Dr.Madhu. Beauty queen-turned-actress Priyanka Chopra, who is riding high on the success of her films "Dostana" and "Fashion", says had it not been for her mother's insistence, she wouldn't have even made it to the Miss India contest in 2000, leave alone winning the crown. "My mother has played a very important role in where I stand today. She was the one who sent in my entry for the Miss India pageant. I didn't even know she was doing it. The win at Miss India and subsequently Miss World was what started my career. "So, a lot of the credit has to go to her. Having chosen to come to Mumbai and pursue a career in films, my mom gave up a flourishing career as a doctor to enable me to follow my dreams. She has stood with me through all my ups and downs. She truly is priceless," Priyanka told IANS over e-mail from Mumbai. (- IANS )

Priyanka Chopra back on her feet
May 5, 2009
After getting discharged from hospital, the actress made her first public appearance at Tarun Mansukhani's birthday party with beau Shahid Kapoor. Just two days after her return from the hospital, Priyanka Chopra was seen carousing at her Dostana director Tarun Mansukhani's birthday bash, which was held at the latter's apartment in Bandra. Chopra was escorted by her boyfriend Shahid Kapoor as the couple are now making joint appearances at B-Town dos and are accepted as each other's 'plus one.' Says a source, "Shahid and Priyanka came in together in Shahid's Mercedes and called Tarun from the car who came down to receive them. They chatted for some time in the car and then both came with Tarun into the lift. Both left together again in Shahid's car but this time Karan Johar with them." Impromptu affair Tarun says his party was impromptu. "It was decided in the afternoon and I had cut a cake in Karan's office." Besides, the director who has also made an ad for the elections urging the youth to vote, adds that at 33 he thinks that he has finally grown up. - Mid-day

Upcoming films: 1. Priyanka is all set to scorch up the silver screen in Vishal Bhardwarj’s Kaminey with boyfriend Shahid Kapoor, slated to release this June. Kaminey is a story about identical twins, hoping to leave the squalor behind and move into a life of prosperity. 2. She has also finished shooting for Ashutosh Gowarikar’s What’s Your Rashee? along side ex-flame Harman Baweja. The film revolves around a young Gujarati man (Harman) in pursuit of his dream girl (Priyanka), who he must find within 10 days to save his family from an unforeseen ordeal. Endorsements: Priyanka also has had a full kitty of endorsements since the past one year; she’s the face of Lux, Ponds, Sunsilk, Hero Honda, Nokia, Tag Heuer, J. Hampsted and Virgin Comic. A study by media monitoring company Adex India revealed that Priyanka is the queen of endorsements and is ranked second on the list of top-notch brand ambassadors of 2008, only after Shah Rukh Khan. Uday Chopra Priyankas drop dead gorgeous
May 7, 2009
Uday Chopra is now working on his comeback film, Love Impossible. Interestingly, he is not just acting, but is also working on the script and producing the film. Directing the movie is Uday’s close friend Jugal Hansraj. How did Love Impossible come about? I had this idea for a really long time. Not many know that I wanted to do this film instead of Neil And Nikki. When I decided to make it, I had to sit down and reinvent the subject and idea. I had to make it more contemporary, so that it blends with today. After co-writing the script, I realised that the main lead had to be me, since he had many similarities with me. Jugal Hansraj, my friend, was making Roadside Romeo then. I asked him to direct my film, and he agreed. Then we met Priyanka and she said yes. It’s a sweet film, and plays on my strength. Since I have written it, I have put myself out there! Buzz is that the film is semi-autobiographical. Is it? Not really. The only similarity between the character and me is that they are both gizmo and gadget freaks. Also, my character is shy and reticent, which comes from me. Everything else is fictional. But, yes, I agree, it is one of the characters closest to me. Were you relieved when Priyanka agreed to do the film? Yes, it was extremely sweet of her to say yes. She’s an actress I admire, and can’t wait to get on the sets with her. I admire her work. She’s not only drop-dead gorgeous, but also hugely talented. What approach are you taking to play your character in Love Impossible? I don’t really need to display my acting skills in the film. It is more reactional – to situations, lines, dialogues and events. If I get my body language right, half the work is done. This is the kind of approach that I want to retain throughout the making of the film. I can’t relate to stuff that’s loud and OTT (over the top). There has to be a certain subtlety to the way you perform. Have you finalised rest of the cast besides Priyanka? Well Dino (Morea) has agreed to do a role. It’s a very sweet role and suits him. Salim-Suleiman will score the music. I will finalise the rest of the cast soon. About Love Impossible Love Impossible seems to share a similar plotline with the blockbuster, Notting Hill, starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. A famous actress, Priyanka Chopra, comes into a bookstore in a sleepy town, and its owner, the reticent Uday Chopra, falls in love instantly with her. (- Starboxoffice )

Priyanka in Bobby Deols directorial debut
May 8, 2009
Bobby has realised that there’s no point waiting for film offers to come his way and he’d make films that he’d like to do himself. Thankfully, he isn’t one of those who goes out and rents foreign DVDs to choose the films he wants to do. Bobby employed a team of writers and they have come up with a script that he’s okayed. He is in talks with friend and co-star Priyanka Chopra for the lead and if all goes well Bobby would be in director’s chair some time later this year. Looks like Bobby is all set to take over from his able dad and badde bhaiya. - The Asian Age

Chor at Chopras
May 8, 2009
Priyanka Chopra's parents home was robbed by household help — by a man who had been working with them for over a month. On Tuesday morning, the actress, who lives in an apartment on the same floor as that of her parents, in Raj Classic, Versova learnt what had happened. Zeroing down A source reveals, "There was chaos at the Chopra home on Tuesday morning when Priyanka's parents found some cash missing from their drawer. They had kept around Rs 25-30,000 to make payments, which disappeared. On finding the wads of cash gone, all the help in the house were summoned and questioned. Since the family has a big staff of helpers, it was getting difficult to zero down on the suspect." Priyanka was preparing to go for a shoot but decided to stay back till the culprit was found. Her parents threatened to call for the cops but none of the servants admitted to the crime. Finally, Dr Ashok Chopra called for the police and the man who'd committed the robbery confessed his crime." Dr Chopra says, "It was just a small robbery and we have now kicked him out. He returned the cash he robbed." When asked why he didn't register a police complaint, PC's father says, "It was just a few thousands and it was recovered, so we didn't register a complaint. We have removed him from the house. We need trustworthy people around." The officer on duty from the Versova police station said, "We were called to the Chopra residence but no complaint was registered." - Mid-day

Haute Haute HOT
May 12, 2009
Cut to 2009, and irony of ironies, Sharmila's snipping steamy scenes out of films as the Censor Board chief. Thankfully though, 'bikini Bollywood' has come of age —from Kareena Kapoor in Tashan, Esha Deol in Dhoom, Bipasha Basu and Aishwarya Rai in Dhoom 2 to Shilpa Shetty and Priyanka Chopra in Dostana, the bikini fever is on in earnest. Lara Dutta is expected to rearrange the pecking order once Blue is released. But who's got the best bikini body in Bollywood? There's no one better to judge that than the ones who style Bollywood's queen bees… Neeta Lulla As far as I'm concerned, it's a tie between Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta. While Priyanka is slim, Lara not only looks very comfortable in swimwear, she's got great curves and has the attitude and style to carry it off effortlessly. My favourite bikini scenes are Priyanka in Dostana, Esha Deol in Dhoom and Bipasha Basu in Jism. Rocky S It has to undoubtedly be Shilpa Shetty. She has the most flawless, ultra-hot, perfect 10 body which she has perfectly maintained since the beginning of her career in Bollywood. I also think Priyanka Chopra looked really stunning in Dostana and it shows that she's worked really hard on her body. She's got an unachievably great body! Anna Singh When it comes to wearing bikinis in Hindi films, there's no one as iconic as Zeenat Aman. The only actress to come closest to her, I feel is Priyanka Chopra. I think Shilpa has one of the best bodies in the business, but my vote still goes to Priyanka. Wearing a bikini is about a great body and the ability to carry it off without looking uncomfortable. To that extent, Aishwarya is a class act. Anaita Shroff Adajania Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu and Shilpa Shetty have the best bikini bods. They have the perfect body and great skin tone. I think they should be living at the beach. (- DNA India )

Priyanka My next character will surely make an impact
May 12, 2009
Priyanka Chopra is all excited about her role in director Vishal Bhardwaj's new movie 'Kaminey' and says the character will 'definitely make an impact amongst the audiences'. "I do hope that I have been able to do justice to Vishal's vision for this wonderful character that he has created. You don't get to work in a fantastic movie like 'Kaminey' and play someone like Sweety (the name of her character) every day," said Priyanka, who donned an altogether new look for the film. "I am confident that my character of Sweety will definitely make an impact amongst the audiences. You can't expect anything less from Vishal. This character is so well written that it is bound to create an impact." Earlier, the film was expected to release on June 5. But due to the standoff between the producers and multiplexes, "Kaminey" is expected to be pushed forward by at least a month. Asked whether it was a conscious decision on her part to mix glamorous roles (as seen in "Dostana" and "Fashion") with a real look, Priyanka said: "Well, yes, it was a conscious decision for sure. I am mixing it up and 'What's your Rashee', which would come next, would see me in a completely different light as well." Just like "Kaminey", "What's Your Rashee" is being produced by UTV Motion Pictures (though in collaboration with Ashutosh Gowariker Productions). The film was earlier slated for a September release but it has to be seen whether the delayed release of "Kaminey" has any bearing on "What's Your Rashee". "Kaminey" also features Shahid Kapoor in a double role and Amol Gupte (writer of "Taare Zameen Par") as a villain. (- Masala )
